Citric Acid is one of the Alpha Hydroxy Acids and is typically extracted from fruit. Our Citric Acid is a pharmaceutical grade extra fine granular powder making it very easy to incorporate into products, especially bath bombs.
Citric Acid is the best choice for fizzing bath powders, and bath bombs. The extra fine size of the granules allow it to readily dissolve producing more of the fizzing action. Check out some of our formulas using Citric Acid in fizzing products. The extra fine granules also help to increase the hardness of fizzy bath bombs which reduces the breakage that can sometimes happen when they are un-molded. For very large bath bombs Citric Acid USP is a great choice because the larger bath bombs need to be harder to hold up to un-molding.
Citric Acid is often used to lower the pH of personal care products however, it can be very irritating to the skin, much more so than other Alpha Hydroxy Acids. We recommend Lactic Acid, another of the Alpha Hydroxy Acids, due to its more gentle nature on the skin. Lactic Acid is one of the most gentle Alpha Hydroxy Acids, which combined with it’s rejuvenating benefits, is a safer alternative for adjusting the pH of creams and lotions.
